History of YK Pao School

The aim of the school’s founders, Professor Anna Sohmen, Madam Tan Fu-yun and Mr Philip Sohmen, is to give Chinese parents the option of choosing world class schooling for their children by bringing educational best practice to China.

YK Pao School was founded in 2007. The primary campus is located on West Wuding Road in central Shanghai's Changning district. The secondary campus, which offers boarding for students, is situated in Thames Town, Songjiang, a suburb of Shanghai.

Major events in YK Pao School's history:

 

October 2010: Primary school moves to new campus on West Wuding Road, Changning District.March 2010: Vice Premier Xi Jinping receives a visit from school founder Anna Sohmen Pao.May 2009: Vice Chairman of the National People’s Congress Yan Junqi takes time out of her busy schedule to personally inspect YK Pao School and offer guidance and advice.September 2008: The primary school reaches an applicant to place ratio of 4:1November 2007: YKPS holds an opening ceremony, attended by all of the school’s Founders, teachers, students and parents, as well as leaders from Hong Kong, Shanghai, Zhejiang and Beijing. The School Founder, Anna Sohmen Pao, gave a heartwarming speech on the topic of “I have a dream”, outlining her vision for the future of the School, and the students gave a performance using Chinese and English. This was the first time that YK Pao School attracted widespread attention.4th July, 25th July, 15th December 2006: The vice secretary of the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee Yin Yicui, the former Vice-mayor of Shanghai Yan Junqi, Deputy General Secretary of the MPC Jiang Liang, Deputy General Secretary of the Municipal Government Jiang Ping, former Chairman of the Municipal Standing Committee and the Science, Culture and Technology Committee Xia Xiurong, and Vice Chairman of the Municipal Education Committee Wang Qi all personally received the Founders, and encouraged the founders to carry out a pilot project for educational reform.August 2006: After extensive research and investigation, the Founders decide to establish the YK Pao School
