Grade 10 is an important transition year in the Upper School where students will study for the IGCSE exams in some subjects as well as prepare for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (DP). As a competitive institution, we intend to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme for its Year 11-12 students. The Diploma Programme is a highly popular and academically rigorous curriculum, recognized and accepted as a gold standard entrance requirement by leading universities and institutions in the world. YK Pao School intends to pursue authorization as an IB World School since we share with the International Baccalaureate Organization a commitment to high quality, challenging international education.
Learning approach
In the Upper School we strongly emphasise independent learning as students mature and become more responsible for their own studies. This is an important preparation for university studies that will help students regardless of what they go on to study. There is great scope for students to reach further into the subject areas that interest them, and we encourage them to develop a wide range of advanced study skills such as advanced academic writing, articulation of complex abstract concepts and critical analysis.
Language of instruction
In the final years of school, we place greater emphasis on English in order to prepare students for university study abroad. We focus on preparing students with the academic writing skills in English necessary for success in the Diploma Programme and in their university studies. Some subjects remain taught in Chinese.
*Only schools authorized by the IB organization can offer any of its three academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), or the Diploma Programme. Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted.
