Our teaching staff comes from both China and overseas, bringing experience and diverse cultural backgrounds, which helps us provide a dynamic learning atmosphere. International teachers come from the USA, Canada, the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore.
Teachers are supported by full time teaching assistants and professional psychological counselors, who assist them in teaching, teaching preparation and student supervision. In addition, we are setting up a Curriculum Development Department to study the latest teaching models and research the curriculum.

Greg Baines: History Teacher, Head of Year 7
Greg Baines received a Master’s Degree in Education from Newcastle University in Australia. He has more than 15 years’ teaching experience, having worked in Shanghai and Australia as a history, drama and English teacher. Greg has IB History Teacher certification and curriculum-writing experience. He is an active artist and writer and has organised several charity events. Greg has lived and worked in China for just over a decade and is well versed in working between cultures. He enjoys exploring the new possibilities that this entails.

Chen Beibei: Mandarin Teacher, Head of Department
Chen Beibei graduated with a Master’s Degree in Education from East China Normal University and is currently studying for a PhD with Thailand’s Assumption University. She has 15 years of teaching experience at primary and secondary schools and has co-authored and edited several books for Mandarin teachers. For Beibei, education is about much more than gaining knowledge, but is also about shaping a responsible and mature outlook. She believes that a love of one’s subject is essential for any successful language teacher.

Joe Elias: Director of Student Life, Maths teacher
Joe Elias graduated from Middlebury College, and boarded at the Deerfield Academy and Bement School. He has more than 20 years of experience working at various US boarding schools where he has taken on various roles including class teacher, coach, tutor, and house parent. As Dean of Students at Vermont Academy, he played an important role in shaping the student life curriculum, and was also the Chair of the Maths Department at Holderness School. Joe has also coached hockey and football teams.
A lover of the outdoors, Joe enjoys camping and fishing, and has also led winter camp expeditions for students. In his spare time, he also plays ice hockey and soccer in leagues in Shanghai.

Chris Gibbs: PE Teacher
Chris Gibbs received a Bachelor’s Degree in PE from Longwood University. He has 3 years’ teaching experience, previously working as a PE teacher at the Ivy Collegiate Academy in Taichung, Taiwan. Chris has previously worked in a boarding programme, and has also led several youth travel trips. He is a certified wilderness first responder. An endurance athlete, Chris participated in the China Ironman Triathlon challenge and in a 250km race in the Gobi Desert this summer.

Le Yingyu: Mandarin Teacher
A graduate of Shanghai University’s Chinese Department, Le Yingyu joined YK Pao School in 2008. Cheerful by name (her surname in Chinese means ‘joy’) and by nature, Le Yingyu believes that, as well as having professional expertise and a caring personality, a good teacher also needs to be smart and quick-thinking.

Daniel Legault: English Director
Daniel Legault earned a Master’s Degree in Education Administration from the University of Michigan. He has over 16 years of experience as a teacher and administrator in international schools around the world, and has previously worked in Korea and Japan. He also brings years of experience teaching English as a Second Language.
In addition to teaching English at YK Pao School, Daniel leads the academic programme, focusing on integrating English language into the curriculum and daily life at the school. Daniel lives on campus with his wife Kumi and their daughter Hana.

Peter McClelland: English Teacher, Housemaster (Boys)
Peter McClelland graduated from Deakin University in Melbourne and taught previously at the Dragon School in Oxford, England. He has more than 30 years’ experience working in boarding schools and is a highly experienced Housemaster. He worked in Australia and the UK for many years, teaching English, ICT, History, Mathematics and Geography. Peter has led various teacher training courses and also given lectures on the role of ICT in the curriculum. He has published two children's puzzle books on spelling and punctuation and has also written an electronic library of mathematics and mental arithmetic worksheets for children of primary age. He enjoys playing golf and tennis and has been a tennis coach for many years.

Shirley Radley: Wellness Centre Coordinator, Housemistress (Girls)
Shirley Radley received a Masters Degree in Nursing from the University of Otago. A registered nurse in New Zealand, she has more than 10 years’ experience in training nurses. She is the coordinator of the Wellness Program and the Housemistress for the Girls’ House. Shirley is also an experienced science teacher, and has taught previously in international schools in Syria and Yemen.

Stephen Radley: English Teacher
Stephen Radley is a graduate of the University of Southampton and has more than 30 years’ experience teaching English, ESL, History, Latin, French and German in schools in the UK, New Zealand, Germany, Syria and Yemen. He also has experience in boarding school education, has coached cricket and led chess and debating clubs.

Miranda Knowles: Science Teacher
Miranda received a Master’s Degree in Physiology and Biophysics from the University of Washington. She has three years’ teaching and coaching experience at Seattle Academy of Arts and Sciences, USA. Miranda also likes to cook and plays the recorder at an advanced level. She has been a member of the US National Ultimate Frisbee Team and has recently been invited to join the Chinese national team.

Coco Shi: Geography and Humanities teacher
Coco attended Nanjing Normal University and East China Normal University and holds a Masters Degree in International Chinese Teaching. She is also a qualified IBDP teacher. Coco has 10 years’ teaching experience, and is highly familiar with the IB programme. A drama lover, Coco has been involved in several school productions, and took on the task of stage manager for last year’s production of The Wizard of Oz.

Yu Suisui: Maths Co-ordinator
Yu Suisui received a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics from Nanjing Normal University. She has more than 10 years of experience teaching mathematics and training teachers. She joined YK Pao School in 2007 as the Maths Co-ordinator. Suisui specialises in teaching mathematics bilingually and using multimedia in her teaching. She believes that humour in the classroom is vital for firing student’s interest in a subject.

Frank graduated from Shanghai Institute of Technology with a Bachelor’s Degree. Frank worked as a mathematics teacher for two years before coming to YK Pao School.

Chris Zhuang: Science teacher
Chris Zhuang graduated from East China Normal University. She has years of experience working as a class teacher and subject teacher. She worked as a science and biology teacher and technology counsellor at middle school level, coaching several prize-winning students. Chris’s interests include reading comics, music, singing and travelling.

Anita Ham: International Teaching and Residential Assistant
Anita received her Master’s degree in Psychology from Maastricht University in the Netherlands. She is a competitive rower and enjoys singing.

Hilary Nabhan: International Teaching and Residential Assistant
Hilary graduated from Wesleyan University. She was captain of her college field hockey team and is a keen dancer.

Vivi Qi: Teaching assistant
Vivi graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong with a Master of Education.

Andy Ris: International Teaching and Residential Assistant
Andy graduated from the University of Pittsburgh, majoring in History. Andy has a wealth of experience inacting and directing on stage and has been a member of a number of choirs.

Peter Rotundo: International Teaching and Residential Assistant
Peter Rotundo graduated from Vassar College with Phi Beta Kappa Honours. Peter previously attended the Philips Academy in Andover.

Daisy Sun: Teaching Assistant
Daisy Sun graduated from Melbourne University with a Masters in Education. She has 2 years experience teaching English at a Junior Secondary Level.

Anne Murray: Art Teacher
Anne received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Parsons School of Design in Paris, and a Master of Fine Arts and an MSc in Art History from the Pratt Institute in New York City. She has taught sculpture, painting, photography, printmaking, and costume design in schools in the US as well as in Spain. She has also worked as an exhibit, set and costume designer.
She worked on a rainforest exhibit at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City and the Congo Gorilla Rainforest exhibit in New York City's Bronx Zoo. Most recently she had a solo photographic show which opened last May in Madrid, Spain. Anne is also a writer and a poet and loves to travel.

Steven Sweeting: Music Teacher, Head of Department
Steve is a jazz pianist and composer from New York who has taught music in Shanghai for the past five years. After graduating from Harvard University, Steve travelled the world performing as a solo pianist and studying percussion in Africa, South America and Asia. He is a veteran accompanist and coach of the New York cabaret and musical theatre scenes. He has also collaborated on CDs with many local singers arranging and recording Chinese folk tunes and original songs. As well as piano, he plays trumpet and trombone. His extensive teaching experience includes Harvard, the Shanghai Conservatory and the JZ School. He joined YK Pao School in January 2011, where one of his sons is in Year 3.

Graham Topp: Assistant Principal (Prep Year), Director of Learning Technology
Graham Topp received a Bachelor’s Degree from St. Thomas University. He is Director of Planning and teacher (Secondary) in our school. He has worked as an administrator and teacher at the Chinese International School and Canadian Overseas Secondary School in Hong Kong. He has more than 20 years’ teaching experience. Graham joined YK Pao School in 2010, and teaches on the Changning Campus and the Songjiang Campus.

Michael Young: PE teacher, Head of Department
A graduate of Birmingham University, Mr. Young is a PE Teacher with 20 years’ experience. He has taught in the UK, South America and Africa. He is qualified in life-saving and first aid, and holds coaching certificates for several sports. Michael joined YK Pao School in 2008, and now divides his time between Songjiang and Changning Campuses.

Stephen Bolton: Prep Year Cohort Coordinator & English Teacher
Stephen Bolton completed a Bachelor of Arts in Politics and Legal Studies at Latrobe University. He continued his professional studies and received a Postgraduate Certificate in Industry Education and Training and Postgraduate Diploma in Primary Education. Stephen worked as a language teacher in Japan before he joined YK Pao School in 2009 and has since worked as a language and homeroom teacher.

Maureen Giulieri received a Master’s Degree in Education from Australian Catholic University and has more than 22 years’ teaching experience. She has worked in Australia and Hong Kong, holding the position of primary teacher (for all subjects) and secondary teacher. Maureen joined YK Pao School in 2010.

Wang Fang: Mandarin Teacher
Wang Fang received a Bachelor’s Degree in Educational Management from East China Normal University. She has more than 11 years’ experience in Chinese teaching. She has worked in state and private schools in Shanghai, holding the position of Chinese teacher. She has received several awards for excellence in teaching. Wang Fang joined YK Pao School in 2010.
