Pastoral Care
Boarding is a unique opportunity for students to develop independence and to have time for their studies and interests without distractions. But students also require care and support while adapting to boarding life. The resident teachers that live in each boarding house provide structured support to students on all issues from academic to social to health, helping students learn to communicate openly and confidently with adults.
In addition, advisors also help provide guidance for students. Medical care is provided by an on-site health clinic.
Boarding Life
As part of our mission to offer whole-person development, the Secondary School is a boarding school. We aim to provide a rich and supportive context for students to learn outside the classroom and develop a range of skills including independence, initiative and teamwork as they learn to live together with others, manage their own schedules and participate in and take on leadership roles in a wide range of activities. Residential life is a central element of the school’s identity and a student’s experience.
Boarding is organized based on the US and UK boarding school model. As a boarding school, YK Pao School is a home as well as a school. Boarding houses are comfortably furnished and provide common areas for students to congregate, areas with internet access and areas to study quietly. The house is not only a student’s home, but is also the focus of community life in the school. It is a close-knit group of students who live together, eat together and study together. Additionally, the boarding house is home to resident teachers. Resident teacher accommodation is connected to the student accommodation, meaning that teachers can closely supervise students and that teachers can give pupils the pastoral, social and academic support they require as they mature.
