YK Pao School boasts a curriculum planning team made up of head teachers from leading schools in China and abroad, with expertise in Chinese and Western school systems, as well as bilingual and IB programmes. This team has produced a unified bilingual curriculum and study environment unique to YK Pao School. In addition to providing a solid base in Chinese and mathematics, we use a range of the world’s most advanced teaching methods and resources to focus on the development of skills and good working habits.
Primary School
- Years 1-5 are taught in a 50/50 mix of English and Chinese. Chinese and international teachers teach in their native language (English or Chinese).
- Students from over 18 different countries are taught together, and interact on a daily basis.
- Importance placed on exchanges with schools from other countries.
Secondary School
- In Year 6-10, students spend approximately 60% of class time learning in English and 40% in Chinese. Teachers teach in their native language, whether Chinese or English.
- In Year 11-12 we intend to offer the IB Diploma*. In these years, the emphasis is on English as the language of instruction, ensuring students will meet the demands of the IB Diploma, and preparing students for admission to leading universities round the world. The IB is recognised as an admissions criterion to universities such as Harvard, Yale and Oxford. It is a broad, challenging curriculum.
*Only schools authorized by the IB organization can offer any of its three academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), or the Diploma Programme. Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted.
