Oxford University visits Pao School

“Enjoy your Studies!”

That was the recommendation from Oxford University’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Andrew Hamilton to our students when he, along with the other guests, visited YK Pao School’s Primary Division on the morning of December 11th, 2013.  Pao School Vice-Chairman Philip Sohmen, Headmaster Wu Zijian, Primary Division Executive Principal Michael Spencer, and Deputy Executive Principal Crick Chen were on hand to greet our guests, who were given a brief introduction to the school, and were very fascinated by Pao School’s bilingual teaching model.

During the visit, our Year 5 representatives closely interacted with Professor Hamilton, introducing him to our extracurricular activities, including our choir and Enrichment Programs, as well as our Mufti Day fundraising initiative for Typhoon Haiyan relief, anti-bullying awareness activities, outdoor education, and our Green student Council.

Pao School students also showed keen interest in Oxford University, asking what Professor Hamilton was most proud of. One well-prepared student even asked how to best prepare for Oxford admissions!  Professor Hamilton not only introduced Oxford’s facilities and colleges, but also encouraged our students to read quality literature and actively take part in community service.  Above all, he emphasized that enjoying their studies is key for them to be motivated to seek knowledge and learning for themselves.

Oxford University is the alma mater of Pao School co-founder Philip Sohmen.  Professor Hamilton expressed delight and pride in seeing Pao School and its founder achieve so many milestones thus far.  He also hopes to see Pao School students become Oxford University students in the near future.
