Year 12 IB Visual Art Exhibition

The arts are not a way to make a living. They are a very human way of making life more bearable. Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow, for heaven’s sake. Sing in the shower. Dance to the radio. Tell stories. Write a poem to a friend, even a lousy poem. Do it as well as you possible can. You will get an enormous reward. You will have created something.

– Kurt Vonnegut

I think it appropriate that the words our students chose to sound their exhibition voice, from that stately wordsmith of literary satire and social conscience, Mr. Kurt Vonnegut, which sums up the creative process quite nicely. It is with pleasure that I introduce this group of young artists to showcase their varied talents across multiple disciplines whilst tapping into an incredible array of thematic schemes.

What you will see in this IBDP Visual Art exhibition is the culmination of a two-year journey, in which these young adults have created with their hands, eyes, minds and emotions on an ever-undulating path of self-discovery. I urge you to keep an open mind, enjoy the collective and if there is an artwork where you exclaim, “I could have done that!” Just remember this…

You didn’t!

Did you.

Indeed, let us tell our stories well and the rewards will be enormous.
