The International Baccalaureate (IB) has recently released the results of the May 2017 diploma programme examinations. We are delighted to share that our Class of 2017- the first cohort of graduates in YK Pao School in which all students undertook the Diploma Programme - achieved its full potential, and more!

The students achieved an average diploma score of 34, compared with the world average of 29.8, with 96% of our students awarded an IB Diploma. The highest score achieved was 44 points (out of a possible 45) and 12% of the class achieved 40 points or above, compared to the world average of 5%. Another standout statistic is that 96% of eligible students obtained the IB Bilingual Diploma, which is a wonderful reflection of our School’s Mission and Vision.

Dr. Paul Wood, Secondary Executive Principal, congratulated the Class of 2017, saying “once again, our pioneering first graduating class has achieved wonderful academic outcomes. They clearly balanced academic demands with their many co-curricular successes during Years 11 and 12.  Congratulations to all of them, to all of their teachers, and to Jayne Lund who introduced the IBDP to our school so successfully!”

Jayne Lund (IB Diploma Programme Coordinator at Pao School) expressed her delight that “Almost all subject/level results were on or above world average! The TOK results were also very satisfying as well as the EEs overall. However, we should not forget that students also invested time, energy and passion in their CAS activities over the two years. This cohort has athletes, musicians, artists, social entrepreneurs, actors, writers and environmentalists who have contributed to the development of our blossoming programme.”

YK Pao School was designated an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School in 2015, providing the IB for students of Year 11 and 12. In addition to the IB Diploma Program, Pao School students also undertake a Chinese studies programme, including Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese Geography, Political Science and Chinese History. The components together comprise Pao School’s unique ‘International Plus’ curriculum which places great emphasis on bilingual education.

Mr. Philip Sohmen, Co-Founder of Pao School, commented on the IB results, “This is a very positive result indeed for our very first cohort with much to be proud of! The results of our leading students are excellent. Also the number of students achieving the bilingual diploma is a great vindication of our work on bilingualism and the strength in English and history are equally testaments to students’ progress in English. Again, BIG congratulations to all the Pao School students who have achieved great success in the exam and to all the teachers/supervisors who have devoted efforts to making it possible!”
