Sports Day
The Primary School Sports Day event emphasizes the enjoyment of physical activity as students participate in developmentally appropriate, collaborative challenges and games while embodying the school's core values of Compassion, Integrity, and Balance. Sports Day offers students a holistic physical education experience, encouraging happiness through an active and healthy lifestyle.
Spring Fair
On April 26th, the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) along with the Primary School held their annual Spring Fair. The fair featured a diverse range of activities, including a talent show, an eco-fashion show, an art exhibition, ICT experience booths, and delicious food, keeping all engaged. Student representatives from the“Treasure Home” captivated the audience with a performance and all ticket proceeds from the event were donated to the “Treasure Home” project. For the past two years the Spring Fair has served as a lesson to students on the importance of serving the community.
Earth Day
Year 1 and Year 2 students recently showcased their learning in an assembly for Earth Day. Year 1 focused on their EU unit "It's Shocking", which highlighted electricity use and culminated in a lively song to inspire the students to "Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle." Meanwhile, Year 2 expressed their enthusiasm for the environment through their "Vanishing Rainforest" unit, presenting an awareness video, a song about the Amazon, and a drama inspired by the book The Great Kapok Tree.
Maths - "Where Has Time Gone"
As part of Year 2's "Where Has Time Gone" activity, the mathematics department invited experts from the Dalai Time Museum to showcase special collections, including barber clocks, and to deliver engaging lectures on the evolution and social significance of timekeeping devices. The event included a variety of interdisciplinary experiential activities. In art class, students illustrated seasonal changes in leaves to better understand the passage of time. Through music and dance, they explored the relationship between rhythm and time. Additionally, in PE, they gained a concrete understanding of "one minute" through activities such as jump rope.
Qin Feng and Year 5 students co-create an art installation
Following the lecture by renowned artist Qin Feng on March 6, the Year 5 students were deeply inspired. Under the guidance of their art teachers, they actively participated in a collaborative art project with Mr. Qin Feng. On the morning of April 10, Mr. Qin Feng visited the school again and, using his highly expressive artistic techniques, connected fifth-grade students’ painted "Ren (Compassion) Yi (Integrity) Ping (Balance)" bricks to create a stunning art installation.
Middle School
House Sports Day
On March 28th, the Hongqiao campus held the annual House Sports Day for the first time at the new Multifunctional Complex. All students participated and worked together to win House Points. They engaged in sports competitions including Tchoukball, badminton, tug of war, ping pong, and even bottle flipping. Through a day full of exercise and team work the students practiced cooperation and problem solving.
Character Education
The theme of April’s Character Education is “confidence” which is important for student development. Students are taught to demonstrate confidence beyond their academic performances in areas such as sports, arts, and social practices. Students apply what they have learned to their performances when they confidently showcase their talents, courageously try new things, and go beyond their comfort zones gaining new knowledge and skills.
Service Learning
As part of the ongoing project to serve the community, students from the Community Service CCA organized a “Spring Music Festival” activity at the Renshoutang Elderly Home. They provided tambourines and prepared songs for the elderly, encouraging them to clap along to the music. The lively interaction brought joy to the residents and students who learned more of the importance of giving back to the community.
Spring Equinox Egg Balancing Challenge
In observance of the Spring Equinox, the start of longer daylight hours, the school hosted the "Spring Equinox Egg Balancing Challenge." This educational activity engaged students in balancing raw eggs, emphasizing skills such as patience and concentration. The students demonstrated perseverance as they attempted to complete the challenge, aligning with the traditional significance of balance associated with the equinox. The Spring Equinox has rich traditional customs in folk culture with traditions such as flying kites, eating spring vegetables, and standing eggs.
High School
Artificial Intelligence
On the evening of April 16th, Pao High School hosted a series of lectures featuring esteemed educators from the China Computer Federation, focusing on the theme of "Artificial Intelligence." The event included interactive Q&A sessions, allowing students to engage directly with experts in the field. The lectures covered a range of topics: Chang Shan, Associate Dean of the School of Computer Science and Technology at Donghua University, discussed "DeepSeek," highlighting advancements in AI; Li Yang, Associate Professor at Huazhong University of Science and Technology, explored "AIGC and the Creation of Virtual Content"; Dr. Henry Wang, co-founder of LingoAI and a guest professor at the National University of Singapore, presented on "AI + Web3.0: Integrating Humanity with Technology"; Ye Nanyang, Associate Professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, focused on "Intelligent Systems"; and Wang Meng, Associate Professor at Tongji University, shared insights on "Deep Research and Computer Use."
Run 4 Hope
Pao Sonjiang Campus joined together in the Run 4 Hope as part of Charity Week. The Student Council led their fellow classmates and teachers in running laps on the track as they raised donations to fund life-saving heart surgery for families in need.
Chinese and Arts Spotlight Month
The Chinese Department organized a series of activities for April, designated as the Chinese and Arts Spotlight Month. The events included creative Chinese poetry recitals, a poetry writing competition, and a student art exhibition. During the school assembly, Year 10 students performed a dynamic flash mob relay reciting the powerful works of contemporary migrant worker poet Chen Nianxi. Meanwhile, Year 11 students interpreted the boldness of Li Bai’s "Invitation to Wine" and the compassion of Du Fu’s "Song of the Conscripts" through a combination of calligraphy, traditional folk music, and various artistic forms of recitation.
TEDxYKPS
The 2025 TEDxYKPS event took place on March 27th, showcasing three engaging talks from external speakers and one from a talented student. This year's theme, "I’mPossible," creatively explored the concepts of uncertainty and possibility. The discussions covered a diverse array of intriguing topics, including media, psychology, mathematics, and entrepreneurship. Each speaker shared valuable insights and personal experiences, inspiring students to embrace change and explore the unknown.
Fencing
The YKPS fencing team recently participated in the SSSA Fencing Invitational, achieving notable success. Among nearly 300 participants, YKPS fencers secured two gold medals, two silver medals, and four bronze medals, earning the school a ranking of 4th out of 40 participating schools. The strong performance was attributed to the efforts of all the 18 students who competed.
